Mission Statement

Alvin C. YorkThe 2nd Military Police Battalion is a subordinate unit of the 3rd Regiment (Alvin C. York), Tennessee State Guard.

The mission of the 2nd Military Police Battalion is to provide a professional complement of personnel to support the state mission of the Department of Homeland Security by assisting the Tennessee Army National Guard as a force multiplier, assisting civil authorities with disaster relief, humanitarian causes, ceremonial services, and religious and medical support for the promotion of the well-being and safety of the citizenry of Tennessee with primary emphasis on the 8 county area of Cocke County, Sevier County, Hamblen County, Jefferson County, Grainger County, Claiborne County, Union County and Campbell County.

In addition, the 2nd Military Police Battalion responds to any call by the governor for emergency state duty in the same manner as the Tennessee Army National Guard and becomes, as stated above, a force multiplier for the Army National Guard. Statewide emergency duty serves to protect the lives and property of Tennessee citizens in the event of a natural or man-made disaster, civil disturbance, or any situation that requires the maintenance of law and order. The 2nd Military Police Battalion is also tasked to work closely with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.

In addition to its primary mission, the Tennessee State Guard may also assist non-profit organizations or local city and county governments by providing the following services at no cost for events such as parades, races, festivals, or other non-profit or government-sponsored public events:

Radio communications (useful to coordinate event activities)

Road block assistance

Military Honor Guard for flag ceremonies or parades

A "uniformed military presence" for any event that qualifies

Under the Military Department of Tennessee, the Tennessee State Guard is allowed to assist with such local activities when they do not interfere with the guard's primary mission and when guard manpower is available. The TNSG classifies this type of public service activity as "training opportunities" to differentiate them from disaster response or other mission-essential activities.

If your organization has a need for such services at its public events, submit the online information request to MAJ Page (p) of the 2nd Military Police Battalion. Include a brief description of your event (include time and date) and how you think the TNSG may be of help. Include your phone number. A TN State Guard member will get in touch with you to discuss the possibilities.
